Rendezvous in Higher Dimensions

چکیده
Two players are placed on the integer lattice Z (consisting of points in n dimensional space with all coordinates integers) so that their vector difference is of length 2 and parallel to one of the axes. Their aim is to move to an adjacent node in each period, so that they meet (occupy same node) in least expected time R (n) , called the Rendezvous Value. We assume they have no common notion of directions or orientations (i.e., no common notion of ‘clockwise’). We extend the known result R (1) = 3.25 of Alpern and Gal to obtain R (2) = 197/32 = 6. 16, and the bounds 2n ≤ R (n) ≤ ¡ 32n + 12n − 2n− 3 ¢ /12n. For n = 2 we characterize the set of all optimal strategies and show that none of them simultaneously maximize the probability of meeting by time t for all t. This behaviour differs from that found by Anderson and Fekete, and the authors, for the related problem where the players are initially placed at diagonals of one of the squares of the lattice Z.

Ring-Walk Rendezvous Algorithms for Cognitive Radio Networks
Rendezvous in cognitive radio networks is the process that cognitive users meet and establish a communication link on a commonly available channel, so that consequent information exchange and data communications can be accomplished on the channel. In this study, we propose two ring-walk (RW) rendezvous algorithms to solve the problem of blind rendezvous, i.e., rendezvous without the help of any...
متن کاملCone Invariance and Rendezvous of Multiple Agents
In this paper we present a dynamical systems framework for analyzing multi-agent rendezvous problems and characterize the dynamical behavior of the collective system. Recently, the problem of rendezvous has been addressed considerably in the graph theoretic framework, which is strongly based on the communication aspects of the problem. The proposed approach is based on set invariance theory and...
متن کاملChannel Selection for Rendezvous with High Link Stability in Cognitive Radio Network
Channel selection is a fundamental problem in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs). One basic channel assignment problem is rendezvous, which investigates how secondary users can establish a connection by selecting a common available working channel in the same time slot. Rendezvous is the prerequisite for communication, which however is challenging especially in a dynamic spectrum environment. Link...
متن کاملMethodology for Prototyping Increased Levels of Automation for Spacecraft Rendezvous Functions
The Crew Exploration Vehicle necessitates higher levels of automation than previous NASA vehicles, due to program requirements for automation, including Automated Rendezvous and Docking. Studies of spacecraft development often point to the locus of decisionmaking authority between humans and computers (i.e. automation) as a prime driver for cost, safety, and mission success. Therefore, a critic...
متن کاملRendezvous in Dynamic Spectrum Wireless Networks
Establishing communications in a dynamic spectrum access (DSA) network requires the communicating parties to “rendezvous” before transmitting their data packets. Frequency hopping (FH) provides an effective method for rendezvousing without relying on a predetermined control channel. Previous FH-based rendezvous designs do not account for fast primary user (PU) dynamics, which results in extreme...
